About your role:
As Clover continues to grow globally, the EMEA Billing team is instrumental in delivering scalable, accurate, and efficient billing solutions that support merchants across diverse markets. This team focuses on building resilient backend systems, streamlining financial operations, and ensuring seamless integration within Clover’s ecosystem, all while driving innovation and maintaining high standards of quality and reliability.
We are seeking a proactive, experienced Java Developer with at least 6+ years of hands-on software development experience and practical exposure to DevOps practices. This hybrid role is ideal for someone who excels in Java development while also contributing to CI/CD pipelines, deployments, automation, observability, and production support.
You will work across both microservices and monolithic applications, help improve system reliability, and enhance our deployment and operational workflows within a fast-paced FinTech environment.
Responsibilities
Software Development (70%)
- Design, develop, and maintain Java applications across microservices and monolithic architectures.
- Participate in the complete SDLC: design, coding, testing, deployment, documentation.
- Develop and enhance RESTful APIs.
- Write clean, maintainable code following best practices and coding standards.
- Troubleshoot application and system issues.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
- Work with SQL and NoSQL databases; optimise queries and contribute to data design.
- Mentor junior developers and support architectural decision-making.
- Support production systems and KTLO (“Keep The Lights On”) responsibilities.
DevOps Responsibilities (30%)
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and enhance CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, ArgoCD).
- Support automated deployments across environments.
- Contribute to observability and monitoring (logs, metrics, dashboards).
- Assist with infrastructure and environment configuration.
- Participate in on-call or production-support rotations .
- Promote DevOps culture and continuous improvement initiatives.
Required Skills
- 6+ years of professional Java development experience.
- Strong understanding of Java, OOP, and engineering fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and related Spring frameworks.
- Experience designing and consuming REST APIs.
- Strong SQL skills and familiarity with NoSQL databases.
- Experience with CI/CD tools (Jenkins, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, etc.).
- Good understanding of DevOps concepts: pipelines, deployments, automation.
- Experience with unit testing and automation frameworks (JUnit, Mockito).
- Familiarity with Git and modern branching strategies.
- Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working within Agile methodologies.
- Strong communication and team collaboration skills.
- Ability to learn quickly, handle change, and work in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Exposure to observability tooling (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK/EFK, Splunk, Datadog, etc.).
- Experience in financial services, payments, or FinTech.
- Cloud platform experience (AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Working with monolithic-to-microservices transition projects.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 6+ years of professional experience in Java development and 1+ year of DevOps.
