Job Title
QA Engineer - Manual/Release ManagementWhat does a successful QA Engineer do?
We are looking for a QA Engineer (Manual) with Release Management experience, this dual-role position focuses on ensuring high-quality, reliable releases.
You will work closely with multiple engineering squads, product teams, and release stakeholders to validate functionality, coordinate testing efforts, and execute structured release cycles. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys hands-on manual testing while also owning key parts of the release orchestration process.
What you will do:
- Plan, design and execute manual test cases for features, integrations and regression suites (functional, smoke, exploratory).
- Coordinate release management activities: maintain the release calendar, track dependencies, manage gating criteria and escalate risks.
- Prepare and validate release artifacts: release notes, deployment and rollback checklists, cutover and post-deploy verification steps.
- Facilitate release readiness reviews, change control meetings and handoffs between engineering, SRE/ops, product and business stakeholders.
- Lead defect triage, verify fixes, and confirm release acceptance criteria (including UAT support with product owners and business users).
- Maintain test and release documentation, and report quality metrics to inform go/no-go decisions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of release and QA processes — create templates, refine checklists and support automation handoffs.
- Support incident post-mortems and root-cause analysis for production issues tied to releases.
What you will need to have:
- 3-5 years hands-on manual QA experience with strong black-box/manual testing skills and practical exposure to integration or end-to-end testing.
- 3–5 years exposure to release cycles or change-management activities
- Comfortable writing clear test cases and recording test evidence and defects in JIRA.
- Basic SQL skills to query backend data and validate persistence.
- Good understanding of SDLC, release lifecycle, test planning and defect triage.
- Strong communicator and collaborator — able to coordinate cross-squad discussions with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple releases and competing priorities.
- Proficient in Japanese language, both spoken and written.
